Kingdon Construction

Meet The Company

The Kingdon name has been known and trusted in the building and construction industry here since Art Kingdon established Kingdon Lumber in 1927. Art’s son, Randy, worked at the lumber yard for years, then decided to take the business a step further by establishing Kingdon Construction. Now Randy’s son, Mike, has joined his father’s business as a fully-licensed carpenter.

Our staff includes four licensed carpenters, three apprenticeship carpenters and two carpenter’s helpers as well as a variety of other professional tradespeople. We are members of the Peterborough and District Construction Exchange and encourage interest and expertise in the building trade by providing apprenticeship opportunities for aspiring carpenters.

We have our own fleet of trucks, including a skid steer, a float trailer and a dump trailer, so that all stages of a project can be completed efficiently and affordably without waiting for equipment to be supplied by other firms.

Kingdon Construction is registered with Ontario’s new home warranty program, Tarion. Our workers are thoroughly trained in safety standards and fall arrest, and we are fully insured by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board.

Meet Randy

Randy Kingdon started his career in the construction field at his father’s business, Kingdon Lumber, more than 45 years ago. Fascinated by building design and construction techniques, he branched out from the lumber business and, in 1970, started Kingdon Construction.

Since then Randy has been an active force in the building and development communities. In addition to his role as head of Kingdon Construction, Randy is a past President of the Peterborough and District Home Builders Association, serving as the association’s president for two years. Randy has headed up several major land development projects in the region.

Randy also understands the importance of building community outside of work time. A lifelong Lakefield resident, he has been an active member of the Lakefield Lions Club for many years. Randy has made substantial contributions of both time and materials to a variety of community projects in both Peterborough and Lakefield.

Meet Mike

Mike joined the family business four years ago full-time and, under the watchful eye of his father, has become a talented fourth-generation builder. With his eye for detail and creative flair, Mike can offer innovative and original ideas from the design stage right through to the final stages of construction.

The building industry is a rapidly changing one, with new techniques and materials developing every year. Mike has made it his personal mission to keep Kingdon Construction on the leading edge of the industry. He regularly attends courses and seminars on topics from energy efficient construction to the latest in building materials, ensuring that Kingdon Construction can provide clients with the most innovative building solutions.

With a background in business administration, Mike can also assist with the practical aspects of planning and carrying out a construction project.
